Excellent Showing
What a great showing for the US! England is one of the strongest soccer teams in the world and it shows how soccer has matured in the US that we can go toe to toe with one of the world's most storied soccer countries. People may say that the US got a lucky goal to tie it. Yes, it was a terribly lucky goal, but the US had many chances in the game, and probably had the best chance of the second half when Jozy Altidore hit the post after it was deflected by England's keeper. In that light, the US could have won. As a result of the tie, the US and England both get 1 point (team's get 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss). The two teams with the most points after 3 games advance to the second round. The US plays again Friday morning versus Slovenia. So, the fact the US tied mighty England and got a point is a victory. I know that sounds weird, but it's a good thing. The US has shown it is a force to be reckoned and that it can hold its own with on the world stage.

Summer Vacation--Day 1
Today I sanded, stained, and painted various pieces of molding for a bathroom we are finishing at my house. I also made a huge trip to Lowe's for some supplies I need for a garden fence project.
How did you spend your Summer Vacation Day 1? I hope you all got off on the right foot.

End of the Year
Don't forget to study for finals! They are important.
I'll continue to blog about my summer break, so stop back every once in awhile to see what I'm up to. Then leave me a comment. I'd love to hear about your breaks as well.
Have a safe and fun summer break!

Movie Under the Stars
Thanks to the members of Junior High Student Council for planning this event, and to Mr. German for his tireless popcorn-popping efforts.
Should we do this again next year? Give your feedback.
